About Suffolk County, New York:

Suffolk County is located on the eastern section of Long Island. Named after its early settlers from the county of Suffolk in England. Measuring 86 miles in length and 26 miles at its widest point, including underwater area, Suffolk County is the second largest county in New York State. Suffolk’s population is approximately 1.5 million making Suffolk the fourth most populous county in the state.

Unknown to many today, Suffolk County was once actually part of the Connecticut Colony before becoming a county of what was the Providence of New York in 1683.
