Schenectady County is located in the eastern area of New York State just north of Albany. The county occupies a total area of 209 square miles, with a population of approximately 155,000.  The name is derived from the Mohawk Indian word meaning “on the other side of the pine lands”

Schenectady County is bordered by Montgomery County to the west, Albany County to the southwest, Schoharie County to the southwest, and Saratoga County to the northeast.
