Ontario County is located in western New York State. The County was founded in 1789 with land ceded to the United States from the Iroquois Confederacy for siding with the British during the American Revolution. The county is named after Lake Ontario. When Ontario County was first established, it was originally much larger, however over time, most of the land was sectioned off to form other counties. Today Ontario County occupies 663 square miles with a population of approximately 109,500. The county seat is Canandaigua.
