Hamilton County is located in upstate New York approximately 93 miles northwest of Albany. Created in 1816, the county was named after Alexander Hamilton, a signer of the United States Constitution and first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States. The County has a total area of 1,808 square miles. While Hamilton County is roughly the size of Delaware, it has a population of only about 4,515, making Hamilton County the least populous county in New York State. In fact it is the least densely populated county east of the Mississippi River. The county lies entirely within Adirondack Park and consists primarily of publicly owned parkland. The county seat is Lake Pleasant.
