Erie County is located in Western New York State along the border with Canada. Established in 1821, present day Erie County was originally  occupied by Iroquoian speaking Indians. After the American Revolution, the tribes were forced to cede their land for siding with the British during the war. The county is one of two New York State Counties located entirely within the Adirondack State Park. Erie County occupies 1,227 square miles and has a population of approximately 918,702. Erie County is home to a number of Colleges and Universities including Buffalo State University, Buffalo University Law School and the Buffalo University Medical School. The county seat is Buffalo.
