Tioga County is located in southwest New York State on the border north of Pennsylvania. Its name is derived from the American Indian word translating to “at the forks” which referred to a meeting place. Tioga County is also bordered by Cortland County to the northeast, Broome County to the east, Chemung County to the west, and Tompkins County to the northwest. It has a population of approximately 50,000.
