About Queens County, New York:

Queens County is located on the western Long Island between Nassau County to the east and Brooklyn to the west. It is the largest of the five boroughs of New York City with a land area of 109 square miles. It also occupies another 70 square miles under water. The borough is believed to have been named after Catherine of Braganza, who was queen of England at the time. Kings County was named after her husband King Charles II. Queens County was created on November 1, 1683 as one of the original 12 counties of New York State. The county originally was much larger as it also included what is today Nassau County. That area was sectioned off on January 1, 1899 to form Nassau County. The population of Queens County is approximately 2.287 million. Today Queens County is one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the United States, with Approximately 47 percent of the population foreign born. The county is also recognized as being one of, if not the most linguistically diverse place in the world. Along with its incredible diversity, Queens maintains an equally incredible variety of ethnic restaurants located all throughout the borough.
